Know and Network

(KAN) Project: Knowledge Portal

Know and Network: Women in IT Knowledge Portal

The Know and Network (KAN) project, supported by the European Social Fund and University of Salford, evolved from the Women in IT (WINIT) research project which investigated the severe under-representation of women in the IT industry in England. Both projects are based at Salford Business School.

One of the key findings of the WINIT project was the lack of information on work related aggrievances with regard to employment and legislative rights, and on support, particularly for women in small to medium sized IT enterprises (SMEs) or companies in which there is no structured HR function.

This Knowledge Portal is specifically for women in IT or ICT professions who wish to know more about:

  • work related aggrievances, such as discrimination, harrassment, bullying and victimisation which may be connected to issues of gender, ethnicity, age, pay, sexual orientation, gender identity, maternity, care responsibilities, disability, religion or belief;retirement; or contractual arrangements;
  • employment procedures for making a complaint;
  • their legal rights in relation to these aggrievances; and
  • where to go for advice and support.

Please note, that the information given on this website is general guidance only, and should not be regarded as a complete or authoritative statement of the law.

The Social Networking component of the KAN portal offers anomonous personal experiences of the above, and a medium to post your own or enquire about further information.
